Safe Spaces
Safe Spaces were developed in response to the need for young people with experience of homelessness to get more support. Numbers of young people experienced homelessness, or a risk of homelessness increased because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The project saw creative practitioners working with young people and staff to co-design a safe space in the complex, to give young people some ownership of the space and help them to feel more connected to the community.
There were a variety of potential spaces, both indoors and outdoors, which could be creatively developed to create meeting spaces. The project would involve design, making, decorating, clearing, building, and looking after the shared space. All valuable skills for living independently.
The creation of a safe space meant young people could meet and connect with each other as well as workers from different services. By developing skills and a sense of community, this had the potential to make a real difference to the lives of young people with experience of homelessness.
The partner organisation for this project was Aberdeen Foyer.
The Creative Practitioners for this project are Anna Shirrin and Sarah Diver.
